Stay tuned:
Mt. Holly is going to be holding the “4th Annual” competition this year. We have had all kinds of support the previous years and it has turned out to be one of the funnest days of the year. Hoping to have the same if not better turnout this year. The date for this is going to be March 6th.
Everyone from Petoskey to Grand Rapids to Ohio has heard about it so make a trip to Mt Holly.
The rail jam happens over in the tow rope park first. We transform the hill into a strictly rail park with jibs and bonks as well. After that we go to the slopestyle park on the Canyon hill. There will be an assortment of table tops, step downs, hips, transfers, spines, volcanoes, and rails. After that is the big air. This takes place at night so the lights are on. It makes you feel like your center stage if your the competitor. I have compteted for alot of years and haven’t seen many jumps bigger in Michigan. Its right at the bottom of the hill and all the spectators are all over the hill watching.
We have a DJ spin all day long and after the competition is over, we have drink specials and bands up in the lift lounge.
Our very own O.D. Dixon and Steve Jesionowski get some great press in Grand Rapids at the BOB Rail-Jam !
Did I mention that OD won it?…Yeah! did you expect less? Also Rees Bowden took first in his age division too! 15 and under!
Many CONGRATS to these riders!

This weekend (Feb 27th & 28th)the Huck Finn riders are headed to Otsego club for their first “outside series score”
The facilities at Otsego are a classic example of what Michigan has to offer, and with the efforts that have been put into the “O-Park” and halfpipe, it really makes this a first class stop for us.

The Midwest freestyle snow sports evolution is in full effect here in southern Michigan. Over the past 10 years the progression of the Midwest’s terrain parks, race courses and half pipes have walked hand and hand with the talented riders this topographically challenged region is producing.
.
When names like Danny Davis and Joey Mango keep popping up all over the world, people keep asking, “Where did you say he was from? Michigan? Do they even have mountains there?” People wonder how it is even possible that a West Bloomfield resident, Kyle Mack at age 12 has become the youngest snowboarder to ever land a 1080? This Midwest Progression comes directly from a combination of passionate athletes, and a strong support system of Michigan based grass roots companies that help make these training facilities and contests possible.
.
Organizations like BOARDSPORT Terrain Design, Epix Custom Snowboards, and the USASA Huck Finn Contest series have come together to team up with enthusiastic resorts like Alpine Valley to help make all of this possible. Rail Jams, Slope Style, Pipe Contests and Boarder Cross Races have had a long history at Alpine and it has been great to see them move forward year after year to where it has brought us to today.
.
This year’s Impossible Rail Jam had a great turnout with over a hundred spectators and 50 skiers and snowboarders who showed up to throw down their best moves on a very challenging set up Sponsored by BOARDSPORT Terrain Design and Epix Custom Snowboards.

Friday’s contest was a jam format where each age group had 30 min to make the best use of the entire course. By the variety of stylish and technical tricks that were put down each half hour it was evident that our areas talent has grown considerably since last year. One judge made a comment during the largest heat of the evening, 14-17 age group; “Its nights like this that make it difficult to be a judge. There are so many good tricks going down at the same time it’s hard to keep track.”

Saturday Huck Finn Held a Slope Style contest for points towards the USASA National Championships at Copper Mountain this spring. Alpine’s Slope course is just one of 3 terrain covered runs at the resort. The run consists of 4 Zones containing 9 features. Saturday also had an outstanding turnout of 60 competitors within the skiing and snowboarding sub divisions. With the fast pace flow of this course many trick combinations were possible.

Latest update:
We had a GREAT turnout for Friday night’s “Impossible Rail Jam” with 53 competitors, look for complete coverage and photo’s soon. The Huck Finn crew was on top of it on Saturday with the 21 Halfpipe competitors and 60 in the Slopestyle event. 2 heats and 4 hours of GREAT riding later we celebrated the awards! Cholula Hot Trick award going to Sam Jochum with his signature super clean 900! Great Job Sam! Unfortunately mother nature is knocking at the door for Sunday, instead of having 75 soaked Huck Finn competitors, we opted to reschedule our Pipe and SBX. An announcement was made at the awards that we would cancel Sundays competition. Right now the plan is to hold two boardercross/skiercross events at Mt.Brighton as well as Pine knob taking care of our requirements. Finding a Pipe to fully qualify our competitors has been challenging, we have a resolution but are currently waiting for the final word. Thank you for your patience!
See you at Mt Brighton!

Furthermore, this year Soaring Eagle is happy to welcome master shredder and all around nice guy Pat Milbery and his crew of professional snowboard coaches to the Freeze X Fest, where they will host the Mighty Midwest Snowboard Camp on both Saturday and Sunday.
